One year anniversary since coma

Posted on March 6, 2011 at 8:23 PM Comments comments (1)

As the 1 year anniversary for Kerri’s coma treatment approaches this week, we are thrilled to report she has had no major set backs.  The first year following the coma is a long road of recovery, and a time period of great risk for the return of symptoms with even a minor injury. Kerri was able to return to college, balancing the physical demands by taking a combination of regular classes and online classes. She has begun to drive again (short distances during the day). Crowded and...

Kerri continues to make good progress!

The month of May was a very busy one for Kerri in terms of medical appointments and continued work toward recovery.  She has continued her pool physical therapy 2 to 3 times a week, learning to walk again and improve her endurance/strength in a heated salt water pool at Chester County Hospital.  This environment helps her to recover gradually with less risk for re-injury.  She is working with some remarkable therapists and meeting so many wonderful fellow patients.  Anothe...

Happy Spring!

Hello and Happy Spring to everyone!  We wanted to update everyone on Kerri’s progress since coming home just before Easter.  It will be 4 weeks tomorrow since we left Monterrey and it has been a busy time.  Much of the time has been spent having Kerri rest to recover, as resuming activities slowly is what is recommended. However, there have also been many appointments to keep up with.  She has gone through 2 rounds of low dose ketamine infusions in Philadelphia. ...

Happy Easter - Kerri is Home

Posted on April 5, 2010 at 12:05 AM Comments comments (9)

We are so thrilled to tell you that Kerri is home.  Dr. Cantu visited us at our hotel room Thursday night to check on Kerri and answer any final questions.  He is an amazing physician and an extraordinary human being – we are so fortunate to have had him lead Kerri through this journey.  We had a long day on Good Friday travelling home, but Kerri weathered it, happy to get home.  Her wheelchair was slightly damaged during the flight and there was a mix-up with our tr...

Kerri Gets Discharged from Hospital San Jose

Posted on April 1, 2010 at 1:41 AM Comments comments (10)

We are so happy to let you know that Kerri was indeed discharged from the hospital today and we are all enjoying time back at the Sheraton hotel. She had been having difficulty seeing and focusing probably due to medications, but was able to look at the computer a bit tonight to Skype with Jeff and Jen for a few minutes on her own. She tires easily, as is to be expected, and was eager to climb into bed after the trip home from the hospital. It was so nice to just relax and watch a little bit ...

We have some amazing news to share tonight! A Much Better Day

Posted on March 30, 2010 at 12:30 AM Comments comments (10)

Sorry we haven't written in a few days.  The weekend was rough going on Kerri but today was the day we have been praying for.  Kerri definitely started to get better this morning - her smile has returned for more than just an instant.  The sparkle is coming back into her eyes and she was able to go briefly out of the room in her wheelchair to see the beautiful view from our 8th floor waiting room! They were even flying the large flag on Obisbado for her.

Never Give Up

Hi wonderful family and friends!

Kerri was not able to get any relief from the booster treatment she received last night, but we have new hope tonight. Dr. Cantu saw that things were not getting any better for her and this evening called in a neurologist friend of his to consult. As we may have told you before many things here happen in Mexico time which is very laid back and non-rushed. However, when it comes to good medical care, things happen! Within an hour the neurologi...

Keeping our spirits up

Posted on March 26, 2010 at 12:44 AM Comments comments (8)

Thanks everyone, for helping to keep our spirits up with all your prayers and encouragement.  Kerri has been trying to be able to move ahead with her recovery but still experiences side effects from the coma that make it difficult to start getting out of bed and feeling better.  This evening Dr. Cantu gave her a 2 hour booster of ketamine to, hopefully, give her some relief to be able to start getting out of the room in her wheelchair sometime soon.  He and Dr. Frederico Ramos ...
