A Much Better Day

Posted on March 30, 2010 at 12:30 AM

Sorry we haven't written in a few days.  The weekend was rough going on Kerri but today was the day we have been praying for.  Kerri definitely started to get better this morning - her smile has returned for more than just an instant.  The sparkle is coming back into her eyes and she was able to go briefly out of the room in her wheelchair to see the beautiful view from our 8th floor waiting room! They were even flying the large flag on Obisbado for her.

We believe her new medication has given her some relief.  The neurologist told us it would take 3-5 days to tell if it was working, and today was the 3rd full day.  Kerri also asked the doctor to stop a medication that she thought was working against her - and she was right on target.  Once again we were so impressed at how the doctors really take the time to listen to the patients here.  They heard what Kerri was saying, respected her opinion, and listened.

Tonight we celebrated with take-out from Applebee's, one of Kerri's favorites.  It was so nice to see John and Rosemary and their family - we'd like to meet under healthier circumstances sometime - but it was wonderful to see such caring friends.  We are truly learning how important our "RSD family" is becoming.

And we can never thank our family and friends at home enough - we couldn't be making it through this without your love and support.

Hi Kathy, Mark, and Kerri,

We're so happy to hear your encouraging news. Sounds like the doctors are listening to Kerri, and that they're flexible in their approach. So glad that she was able to leave her room for a little while and look outside at the scenery. We hope this is just the beginning, and that in your next blog, you'll be telling us about more of Kerri's triumphs.

You're all in our thoughts and prayers.

Love, Bonnie, Allan, and Jackie

Hello Kerri, Mark and Kathy,
We are so excited to hear the good news, that you are having such an improvement! We are really impressed that they flew the large flag just
for you! You deserve that kind of recognition. We have prayed everyday,
for a full recovery for you, and God does answer prayers. Keep up the
good work, and come home soon, to all the people here, that love you.
We can hardly wait to see your beautiful smile again. We love you, and
your Mom and Dad, so much.

Okay, so I have no idea how the heck I posted Jennifer's comment under my name. I typed my comment, and somehow that appeared. Can you tell computers are not my speciality?

Anyway, Kerri, I am so happy to hear that you are finally feeling more like yourself. I am sure it has to be very encouraging. I know some of the side effects after the coma are very difficult to deal with and I am so glad to hear that your brain seems to be "finding normal" once again.

It is wonderful to see the "art" of medicine is still alive and well in Mexico. Unfortunately I feel like that is being lost here. If more docs would listen to their patients as the docs in Mexico do, we would all be in better shape (physically and emotionally.) :) I think most every coma patient would love to pack Cantu in their suitcases and bring him home!

God Bless! Keep up the good work Kerri!

Lindsay

Thank you for posting the good news. How wonderful that it was three days instesd of the five! Isn't it wonderful when doctors listen to their patients? We may not always be able to put our finger on things but we can usually tell when something isn't working right. :)

Wonderful news!!! YAY!!!! We are praying for these things to continue and that this day will be another one to celebrate the advances made. May the LORD bless you with peace and hope and may you return home soon because the side effects have disappeared very quickly. We can't wait to see you sometime. Hope it is soon! Anyway, know that we are constantly lifting you all up before the throne of God and rejoice in how the day went yesterday!
